Family Safety Center Clinic
In partnership with Nashville General Hospital, the Clinic provides a non-hospital location for forensic medical exams for victims of physical interpersonal violence who are 18 & over, including strangulation. For sexual assault exams, the non-hospital location is the SAFE Clinic.

For Clients
Who can get an exam?
Individuals 18 & older who have experienced strangulation or a physical assault as part of an abusive relationship. *
What will happen in the exam?
A nurse practitioner will assess your injuries & with your consent, photograph & document those injuries. If you have other medical concerns, let the nurse know.
When to seek other medical care?
Go to the hospital if you have severe symptoms like seizure, pregnancy issues, active bleeding, etc. If you’ve experienced a sexual assault, please go to the hospital or SAFE Clinic. *
For Partners
Partner Referrals
- Walk-in to the FSC during clinic hours
- Appointment – call FSC at 615-880-1100
- If possible, email the patient’s name, date of birth, and phone number to EnasGerges@ jisnashville.gov
Exam Assessment
- Trauma-informed medical assessment & care for FSC Clients
- Forensic evidence collection & injury assessment related to physical assault, including strangulation
- Photo documentation of injury
- Referrals to appropriate specialists & medical providers
- Follow-up care
Refer to other medical care for:
- Psychosis
- Suicidal or homicidal thoughts
- Active bleeding
- Seizures
- Broken bones
- Head injuries
- Severe illness
- Pregnancy
- Sexual Assault (Hospital or SAFE Clinic)*
Clinic Limitations
The clinic does not provide:
- On-site imaging (CT, MRI, or X-ray)
- Suturing or procedural repair
- EKG capability
- Prenatal or obstetric care
- Sexual assault care
Sexual assault patients will be referred to appropriate providers including:
